Sabang is known as the entry point for the Underground River Tour. When we went to Palawan, we weren’t able to book for the underground river tour. Since Sabang is part of our itinerary, we decided to push through with our plan. We love to explore new places, and I think Sabang is still worth our visit. I wasn’t wrong about this. People might not know this, but there are a lot of things you can do in this small town besides going on an Underground River Tour. One of these is the Mangrove Paddle Boat Tour.
Last year, I was invited by a friend on their weekend adventure—Rock Climbing. Who in their right mind, would turn down an invitation like this? Definitely not me.

We initially agreed to take the Tour C for our second day in El Nido, but since my cousin doesn’t want to do any island hopping, we take the Inland tour instead. We traveled 25km up north from El Nido town riding a tricycle. It was a long and bumpy road to Nacpan beach. But everything was all worth it.

El Nido has various island hopping tour packages to choose from, depending on your budget and time. You can either pick from Tour A (PHP700/pax), tour B ((PHP800/pax), tour C(PHP900/pax) , tour D (PHP700/pax), tour E (PHP700/pax) which some call the inland tour, a combination of tour A & C (PHP1,500/pax), or a combination of tour B & D (PHP1,500/pax). One day for each tour and usually comes with a free lunch. Since we’re just staying in El Nido for a limited time, and on a budget, we pick Tour A.
Getting around can sometimes be a daunting task, especially when you’re doing a DIY trip. Since I had my fair share of experience in this area, might as well share what I know
to spare you the headache that can help you plan your own DIY trip.
If you’re here and reading this article, it just means you’re looking for a cheap and budget friendly accommodation. Finding a place to stay is one of the most important parts of planning a trip. It can be a bit of a challenge for some, especially to those who are on a tight budget. But if you’re a keen researcher, I’m pretty sure you’ll get through.
When planning a DIY tour for Palawan, don’t forget the most important thing, secure a Permit for the Underground River. Unlike before which you could secure/reserve one over the phone, today you need to get it personally. Unless you take advantage of the packaged tour offered by Travel Agencies, your travel agency will secure the permit for you. They also closed down the booking office in Sabang. So the only booking office left that authorize giving out permit for Underground River, is their new main office in City Coliseum, Puerto Princesa.
Most of my travels are DIY. So, I do some research before the trip. Top of my search would include the ‘How to get there’. Although it’s fun to get lost from time to time, still, nothing beats a prepared traveler. 😀
I made a short guide here, on how to get to El Nido from Puerto Princesa. I hope this help you plan your next trip to El Nido.
Your Home Away from Home
Mami’s Surf Haus is one of the few houses included in the Homestay program in Lanuza. Since there are no hotels in the area, the LGU and the locals adopt the homestay system instead. In that way, the local can benefit first hand on the tourism of their place.
Looking for a cheap alternative surfing destination for Siargao? Lanuza will make it on your list. There’s a lot to see and do in this quiet town, but I guess the best thing to do here is to surf and drink. They have the most amazing and friendly community of surfers. You can really get a feel for the neighborhood pretty easily.
